Community Outreach

Our business is embedded in the local community in Kent and we play an active role working with partners to bring communities together to promote cohesion and understanding. KKB is an official partner of Cohesion Plus, a Dartford-based community organisation which uses the arts to promote mutual understanding between communities.

KKB is an official partner of Essex-based food bank Bobby’s Big Heart and sponsor a number of local initiatives including:

Roller hockey-playing siblings Amelia and Jack Thomas who represented Team GB at the Rink Hockey World Championships last year
BEKS (Bring Every Kind of Smile)
Local football club AFC Bexley

Local Resourcing

We always attempt to procure locally: this helps to stimulate the local economy as well as providing tangible benefits to the programme by reducing travelling time, transport costs, energy consumption and therefore the programme’s carbon footprint. The KKB Group also has an excellent track record for creating apprenticeships which lead to skilled, full-time careers for local residents.

Supporting Armed Forces

KKB has initiated a programme with the Ministry of Defence to support armed forces personnel to reintegrate into civilian life which includes training, coaching and mentoring. Every 3-months Soldiers Under Training (SUTs) from the Brompton, Chattenden and Lodge Hill Barracks of the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME) visit our plant workshop in Hoo to experience and learn the basics involved in maintaining heavy plant such as excavators, articulated dump trucks, loading shovels etc. Military Instructors are also given the opportunity to complete their NVQs with weekly training at our depot on a day-release basis.
We also support “KKB Veterans Breakfasts” to provide a space for ex-miliary personnel based in Dartford and Gravesham to connect, socialize, and support one another.

Workforce Wellbeing

We are fully committed to supporting and developing the health of our workforce. We have been registered members of the Medway Healthy Workplace Programme since May 2023 and have achieved a Gold Award following submission of evidence to support 30 pledges which included:

Procedures to reduce staff absence
Absence and staff turnover monitoring
Support to stop smoking, prevent/manage alcohol/substance misuse
Managing MSK disorders
Cancer screening
Promoting healthy eating and physical activity

KKB Remediation carried out the works at Crawley Works for us. They were selected from a list of 4 tendering contractors as being the best bid and best price. They completed works in 23 weeks. Tarmac and KKB have a true partnership, KKB provide Asphalt processing and recycle construction and demolition waste for Tarmac at 25 sites across the South. This provides flexibility for Tarmac and a consistent work load for KKB. Through collaboration KKB minimises transport costs whilst Tarmac ensure a quality product is available at all sites on demand. KKB provide advice and support and deliver innovative low cost solutions on request. I am extremely happy with how the relationship has developed it is working well for both parties.
