KKB Group has been an early adopter of technological innovation to drive decarbonisation across our operations.

Electrification

KKB has invested heavily in recent years to introduce hybrid technology to our stock of plant/equipment. The latest hybrid technology can deliver 20% savings in fuel consumption and 15% reduction in carbon emissions. We recently took ownership of our first fully electric crushing machine to complement our existing fleet of crushing / screening plant which are diesel-electric powered.

A site trial of Syntech’s B100 biodiesel was recently completed on our range of plant and vehicles. Results confirm commensurate fuel consumption and performance using conventional diesel while providing intelligence on storage and handling and other operational matters.

Hydrogen Power

We have been in discussions with JCB to establish the feasibility and timescales involved in using their hydrogen-powered plant. Currently they have a hydrogen backhoe loader and telehandler model available on the market with other models due for release in the next 2-3 years.

Fuel Efficiency

Infrastructure and regeneration sites tend to cover a large area placing heavy demands on logistics – just getting plant and equipment around the site can consume significant quantities of fuel. For large projects our teams typically design and implement a materials logistics plan in which the sequence of works is carefully planned to minimise distances travelled to locate and relocate plant, equipment and personnel. We believe that this form of detailed efficiency planning can deliver 10-15% reduction in fuel consumption during the enabling phases.
