In 2013 KKB were appointed to conduct processing of waste asphalt at Aggregate Industries’ new Colnbrook Depot in Heathrow. The work is conducted on a campaign crushing basis.

KKB’s facility is fully integrated into the site’s central processing area which involves lots of interaction with other site traffic. Our semi-permanent set-up includes a hybrid electric Impact crusher, 3-way screening plant which is fed by a 36-tonne hybrid excavator and loading shovel. Two trained operatives carry out the works as part of the site team.

Reclaimed asphalt material is transported and tipped on-site by the client and contractors working on its behalf.  When stocks have reached a suitable level our team mobilises to site and sets up ready to crush and screen the waste asphalt into two grades of product (0-10mm and 10-20mm) which are used as feedstock for new asphalt production. The resultant materials are laboratory-tested for compliance against specification for size and bitumen content.

We recycle approximately 100,000 tonnes of asphalt material for Aggregate Industries each year.

In 2024 we plan to introduce our new RM120 X hybrid electric crusher and dual fuel screener to the works. The set up will be extremely fuel efficient with the screener powered by the crusher’s generator meaning the screener is not consuming diesel during production. This set-up should reduce fuel consumption and our carbon footprint by 30%. The crusher can also be plugged into mains supply electric to further reduce CO2 emissions if a suitable, feasible power source is available.
