Enabling works and plant-hire specialists, KKB Group, arranged an open day in October 2022 at its site in Kent to showcase its new range of sustainable excavators as well as its plans for Net Zero.
Representatives from the management team of the Lower Thames Crossing scheme as well as a number of clients were given presentations by Managing Director Del Bhanot and Volvo’s UK dealership the SMT Group who explained how their new range of excavators can contribute to the transition to low-carbon construction/civil engineering.
The EC300EL and EC350EL models feature unique hybrid hydraulic technology which provide 17% great fuel efficiency to deliver 15% reduction in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
Following presentations attendees were given a tour of the facility and a demonstration of the excavators in action.
“We like to believe we have our finger firmly on the pulse of technological developments in plant and equipment, we were after all one of the first plant companies to bulk purchase hybrid excavators back in 2016,” says KKB’s Managing Director Del Bhanot who discussed the feasibility and impact exciting new technologies such as biofuels and hydrogen power could have on the sustainability of major infrastructure developments like the Lower Thames Crossing, “These developments may be game-changers but are likely to be a few years away from practical roll-out so until then we will be concentrating on what we can do today and tomorrow to minimise carbon and in terms of plant this means expanding our hybrid and diesel-electric range.”
KKB will be publishing its first baseline carbon footprint in 2023 along with its corporate plans for Net Zero by 2050.
The KKB Group has been providing services to the construction and civil engineering sectors for over 12 years, offering a suite of services from land remediation to waste recycling and plant hire and sales to increase the value and environmental performance of the regeneration process.
