Following the success of our enabling works for Drax at Kingsnorth we were appointed to deliver a similar project to facilitate the development of a new sub station in the village of Yaxley on the Norfolk/Suffolk border.
The contract involved preparing an 8000 sqm working platform for the development and building a 1.5 mile access road to the isolated, rural site across two working farms and a B-road.
To prepare the ground for the track we removed the upper levels of top and sub-soil to a depth of 350mm and replaced with terram topped with a layer of type-1 which was compacted. We installed a perforated pipe to act as a land drain alongside as well as a half-mile of timber fencing. We also resurfaced 150 metres of existing highway where the new road meets the A140 under an overnight road closure.
Clearance of vegetation and wastes preceded cut and fill earthworks to level the site prior to installing a capping layer of type-1 imported from Tarmac’s local asphalt plant in Higham.
Testimonial:
"KKB performed safely, reliably and collaboratively during this project. Their management team were well organised, pragmatic, and diligent to work with and both we and our representatives on site are very satisfied with the services they have provided us."
