Phase 2 works involved the dewatering of various excavations and treatment of the perched water followed by the remediation of the identified hot-spots, including the treatment, separation and disposal of unsuitable materials.
This was followed by the breakout of the existing hardstanding area. Once broken out,the resulting materials were crushed to grade and stockpiled for re-use as site-won material. The quantity of materials gained for site re-use was 7,200M3.
This was followed by the bulk fill and layered compaction of 34,000m3 of imported Class1a materials. 6,000m3 of existing stockpiled materials were screened for site use and lime stabilisation was carried out to the drainage works arisings. The final operation was the placing of 2,400m2 of layered, compacted capping to the project carriageway construction.
All works were completed to programme and budget.
